Calamus oil is extracted from the fresh roots or unpeeled dried root of red-aquatic plants. This plant has small greenish-yellow flowers and sword-shaped leaves. The oil is obtained by means of the steam distillation process. It is widely used for treating dysentery, headaches, vertigo and nervous complaints.
